Yves Brayer is one of France’s most celebrated modern painters. Inspired by the artists of the late 19th century, he was able to capture the true character of his subject. Be it a landscape near Les Baux-de-Provence or a still life.
His reasonably large volume of works is very diverse, for other than his renowned landscapes of the Provence, he would experiment with large canvasses and various objects and compositions and was very eager to try any techniques available to an artist…
A lover of Mediterranean landscapes, he frequently traveled through Morocco, Spain and Italy, before setting his sights on the Camargue and the Provence.
The Yves Brayer Museum opened in 1991 and hosts a number of his oil paintings, watercolours and drawings, offering a wide overview of this artist’s work.
Currently the “Hotel De Porcelet” is also hosting a temporary, centenary exhibition on Yves Brayer – from May 7th - August 28th 2007.
